Cornfield Chase

Hi! I’m Aman Ahuja - a Health Coach, writer and a podcaster. I’ll tell you about my writings and my podcast later (you can also find them on ‘About’ page of my website).

Let’s talk about Health Coaching, and what brings me here. So like I said, I’m a health coach, but not like the typical ones you find online. Well, at least, not any more.

Even before I started coaching, I used to control every bite of food I ate, like what I eat, when I eat and how much I eat - through calorie & macro counting. I knew the exact number of steps I took during any day. I even had an exercise plan of a body builder - that’s how I got those boulder shoulders. And, there were just too many rules about everything. I obsessed over planning my day and my work around food and exercise. Only to have a shredded physique. This control went so far that I attached my worth to it. So, in a way, my survival depended on me obsessing over planning & controlling everything in my life.

One of the coaches I worked with even called me an Avenger. That’s how shredded I looked back then. Even my blood report was exceptional to an extent that it surprised even doctors.

But it all came with a cost that I didn’t even know I was paying and what it was doing to me in the long run. After a couple of years of doing this, I started to see symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS - a gut related issue), Disordered Eating (I would eat anything and everything that I saw), lower sex-drive, mood swings - more like repressed emotions, and zero social life. Some would argue that it’s fine. After all, those so called ‘friends’ were only pulling you down. I get it. But is it really worth it? After all, a concept can only be applied too far in real life. Otherwise, it’s just loneliness in the end - a growing pandemic in today’s world.

Tell me if you’ve experienced something like this. You can write to me hello@amanahuja.in

Note: The title of this blog is inspired from the soundtrack of the movie ‘Interstellar’ where it’s about the chase and control of everything around in order to survive.
