Give me Control!
If you’ve read my first blog (Cornfield Chase) then you know how I used to count calories, exercise like a body builder, walk like I’ll be rewarded, and try to control everything in my day. Now, I’ve made peace with having a softer belly, and no longer obsess on controlling every detail in my life. It took a lot of pain & effort, including withdrawal symptoms that came after I stopped tracking macros and calories. But I learned a lot every step of the way. And these things are now least of my worries. Now, this is all at a personal level. Let’s look at a more generic level.
Sleep, stress, food, & exercise are some of the things you will need to control and manage to maintain a certain level of Body Fat %, or to look a certain way. Imagine managing all this with a family of 4 and a 9-5 job or a business. It’s needless to say this, but most of us don’t really have a direct control over so many of these things. Naturally, we try to control what & how much we eat, or how much we exercise. Some people who can afford, go for smart gadgets just in an effort to control the uncontrollable. Still, many people would feel that even managing their basic nutrition and movement is out of their control. Put yourself in this situation. You’re gonna be all over the place, and you won’t even notice it.
The sad reality is that people who are not healthy or don’t look like a certain way based on social media standards are often shamed and it’s concluded that they lack discipline. Said enough number of times, anyone would start to believe that about themselves. Leading to a low self-worth and at times loneliness too. The silent ongoing pandemic. Guess what is gonna come out of this. Exhaustion and burnout at its highest. Lack of happiness and fulfilment. Lost creativity. And an endless cycle of trying to gain that false sense of control.
This is a prison at best, if not a living hell, that we build with our own hands willingly.
Ask yourself, where are you going with this.
